Bishop Mario Grech praises adoption and fostering as “heroic acts”

Though the weather was not promising, Dar Ġużeppa Debono celebrated Pro-Life Day as planned with a symbolic walk towards Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary on Sunday 5 February 2012. During the walk various reflections on life were read and at various points the crowd stopped to reflect as these moments were animated choreographically by the young students of the Central Academy of Dance from the Gozo School of Drama.

In a Solemn Concelebration at the Sanctuary starting at 5.00pm, Gozo Bishop Mgr Mario Grech called adoption and fostering “heroic acts”. The protection of life “requires a commitment in order to continue to have a strong family unit”, emphasised the Bishop. Dar Ġużeppa Debono is among the main institutions in the Maltese islands which promote a service of support to the family.

The Bishop mentioned that “it is an honour for us Gozitans to have in Gozo such a good number of fostering cases. Both adoption and fostering are heroic expressions of Christian charity”. In a separate message addressed to all Gozitans, Bishop Grech called youths “ambassadors of life”.

The Ta’ Pinu Basilica was packed with people from all over the island for the occasion. The Minister for Gozo Hon. Giovanna Debono, Dr Anton Refalo and Dr Justyne Caruana were present. This celebration of life was also transmitted on Radju Marija.

On Saturday 11 February, the activities tied with the theme Żgħażagħ miftuħa għall-ħajja (Youth Open for Life) will continue. On that day, at 2.00pm, Dar Ġużeppa Debono will be organising an activity for youth at its own premises, during which Fr Richard N. Farrugia, a Gozitan priest studying Bioethics in Rome, will be speaking. Dr Margaret Spiteri, gynaecologist, will be also addressing those present.
